AN ESPRESSO MACHINE
The Victoria Arduino Venus Espresso Machine, to be specific. Just one of a few different items given to Pope Francis that the Vatican auctioned off for charity in Nov. 2014. No word on whether he used it first; an espresso machine owned by the Pope has to brew some truly divine stuff.
AN N.Y.C. IDENTIFICATION CARD
Stumping for New York City's municipal identification card program, NYCID, Mayor Bill de Blasio presented Francis with his own when he visited the city in 2015. "IDNYC is about creating inclusion, compassion and unity for our city," de Blasio said. "Few have spoken more clearly and eloquently on the importance of these values and the rights of all humanity to be treated with dignity and respect than Pope Francis."
A VERY OLD KEY
One of the gifts President Barack Obama presented Francis with during their 2014 summit was a 206-year-old key from the home of Elizabeth Ann Seton, the first native-born American to be declared a saint. (She was canonized in 1975.)
JUST A REALLY NICE AFTERNOON
This is actually a photo of the present Francis gave to Obama, a copy of Evangelii Gaudium ("The Joy of The Gospel"), but we like to think the real present was the magical afternoon they spent together. Look at how much fun everyone's having!
AN HOMERO ORTEGA HAT
Another one of the Pope's auctioned-for-charity gifts, the white Homero Ortega Panama hat he was given can go for anywhere between $40 and $90 on eBay.
A HARLEY-DAVIDSON DYNA SUPER GLIDE
It's considerably more awesome than the Popemobile, but also a little more reckless, so Pope Francis also auctioned off the Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide gifted to him by the brand in honor of its 110th anniversary, to the tune of $327,000. Proceeds from the sale benefitted a hostel and soup kitchen in Rome.
A BOOK OF HIERONYMUS BOSCH PAINTINGS
As part of his Oscar campaign (joking, they talked about climate change), Leonardo DiCaprio met with Pope Francis recently, and gave him a book of Hieronymus Bosch paintings. A copy of the painter's "The Garden of Earthly Delights" hung over the actor's crib as a child, he explained to the Pontiff.
A CROSS MADE FROM THE TWIN TOWERS
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo gave the Pope this deeply symbolic and heartfelt gift when he visited in September 2015. Made from steel salvaged from the World Trade Center towers, the cross was presented to Pope Francis as a special "New York" gift; the Pope visited the 9/11 Memorial and Museum while he was in town.
WHISKY
When Queen Elizabeth visited the Vatican in 2014, she brought along quite the hostess gift: a bottle of whisky from Balmoral, along with a basket of jams and other drinks produced on the royal family's estate. In return, Pope Francis sent her home toting a stone globe with a cross decoration for little Prince George.
