Squid Game: The Challenge Finale: When Does It Air?

July 2024 · 2 minute read

Squid Game: The Challenge has been a huge hit on Netflix since it launched on the streamer on November 22 – but fans are eagerly awaiting the tense finale.

ICYMI: the gameshow is based on the fictional show Korean drama Squid Game was inspired by – minus all the death – but the dramatic, nail-biting challenges featured in the competitive series are just as gripping. If you love ‘survival’ reality shows, this one's for you – it's even been compared to The Traitors.

Plus, if you're still impatiently waiting for the next series of the ultra-popular original Squid Game, this might just be your bag.

But if you have binged the first nine episodes of Squid Game: The Challenge already, you're probably wondering when the finale will be available to stream. You're in luck, as Netflix will be airing the final episode tomorrow – December 7 – at 2am, since it is airing in the US at 9pm on December 6.

If you're still yet to catch up, you can get a taste for the Netflix show with the trailer, which was released earlier this year. It starts with a voice bellowing on the loudspeaker: "Attention, all players, it is not time for the next game," before the light flashes on to show a large room full of bunk beds where the contestants will (get very little) rest.

The players are also seen entering a plethora of challenges, many of which were depicted in the Hwang Dong-hyuk-directed series. Some look excited, while others look like they've got themselves in for more than they have bargained. As well as the terror of looming challenges, the trailer also shows us that there's a generous dose of drama between the contestants, with some eyebrow-raising backstabbing involved.

"You can't trust anybody in here," one contestant is heard saying, before we're shown that they must all choose two players to eliminate. In another clip, at least a hundred players are seen scrambling over one plate of food while, of course, the figures in the red suit appear throughout the trailer.

If you don't already know, Squid Game: The Challenge will see 456 players competing for a massive prize of $4.56 million (£3.8 million). Woah.

You can catch another clip here:

The official synopsis for the show reads: “As they compete through a series of games inspired by the original show — plus surprising new additions — their strategies, alliances, and character will be put to the test while competitors are eliminated around them.”
